Governance as the Lock and Key
Decision-making for a sustainable future with Dr. Victoria Hurth
We already know the risks. We already have the data. Yet most organisations continue to make decisions that undermine long-term wellbeing for both people and the planet – and hence themselves.
After years of focus on ESG, much of the work remains incremental and fragmented, falling short of addressing what really needs to change. Not due to a lack of intent, but because we are still treating symptoms rather than addressing root causes.
What this seminar will explore
Arkatay is proud to host Dr. Victoria Hurth, a leading voice on how organisations must evolve to not just keep up with a changing world, but take their leadership role in determining this future. In this session, she will draw on that experience to address the most fundamental challenges facing leaders, organisations and citizens today.
This is not another session on ESG. It is a conversation about how organisations actually function. How decisions are made, what gets prioritised, and why even well-intended strategies fall short.
Victoria will challenge how we think about governance, purpose, value creation and the role of business in society. The premise is simple: if we want different outcomes, we need to rethink what and how decisions are made.
Alongside helping sense-make the current context, she will introduce practical approaches, including the ”3 Logics” framework of decision-making and existing and emerging international standards for governance (ISO 37000) and purpose-driven organisations (ISO 37011) which Sweden is an active participant in.

What you will leave with
You will gain a clearer understanding of why organisations struggle to act on what they already know, and what it takes to move beyond that. The session will explore:
- why decision-making often becomes self-defeating
- why ESG, in its current form, is not enough
- how governance shapes decisions and outcomes, often without being noticed
- what it really means to be a purpose-driven organisation
- how purpose governance can support long-term value and resilience
- the role of leaders, individual firms and the wider system in transformative change
